Education Day at CHA Winter 2013

Friday was education day at CHA, and we had a full day of class. First, I had a class with Sizzix making 6 different projects. Some of the projects included a Pop-n-cut card,

a pair of earrings using the Vintaj products,

a flower with the new dies from Susan"s Garden, a watering can flower with the scoreboard dies, and a flip card.

Next class was Vintaj Patina Metal Effects where I made five pieces of jewelry. Here are just three of the projects.

Then, it was onto a a Mixed Media class sponsored by Fiskars. I will have to post pictures after I finish the book.

Last was a class sponsored by Imagine Crafts with a variety of products creating a project for each month. Come visit Cafe Crop later this week to see all 12 projects.

CHA Winter 2013 Begins

CHA activities began for Cafe Crop with a workshop by Imagine Crafts with Tsukineko products for Crafters Home members. The first project was an explosion box using a variety of products.

We used StazOn and GlazOn to decorate an ATC sized metal blank. It can embossed and cut with the steel dies yet is still strong enough to use as jewelry and embellishment.

Then we used shaving cream and All Purpose Ink to create a marble effect on fabric.

Next we used the left over to marble some squares of paper. The fabric became the cover of a mini accordion book in the middle.

We completed this project by playing with the Goosebumps spray and dabbers to create a resist on the individual layers. This is a really cool product. We used it with stamps, stencils and just as a spray. It comes in original and a shimmer.

In the afternoon we made a mini album with a cool looking cover using the Tsukineko Kaleidacolor ink pad (a non-bleeding raised dye inkpad), Ink Potion No. 9 (a ink blending solution for water based inks) and a brayer.

Then we crumpled it and smoothed it out, inked it with Memento Dewdrop Ink, and sprayed it with Fireworks. It added a nice light shine to it. The binding was super easy. Look for it in an upcoming class. For the inside pages, we were able to play with all the techniques.

This was the sample book. Look for ours in the store when we get back.

Merry Christmas

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and hoping everyone is taking time to spend with family and friends.
I spent the day playing with new crafts toys and finished my December 2012 Tags. The snowman and snowflakes were cut out with my Sizzix eclips and my Stamp-2-Cut cartridges.

I didn't have the large snowman blueprint stamp, so I chose to use the mini snowflake stamp to make my tag. First, I used the distress stains to create the background. Then I stamped the snowflake with chipped sapphire on the tag. I also stamped 3 snowflakes on watercolor paper and used my eclips to cut them out.  I would never have been able to cut them out by hand and still kept the details. The letters were cut from the mirror paper (you can see my tree lights reflected in the letters).

I also made a smaller snowman tag using the mini snowman blueprint stamp. I cut out the snowman and the cut out another hat to layer on top. The eclips even cut out the tiny stick arms for the snowman.

Help with your new Eclips
If you were lucky enough to receive an eclips for Christmas and need help getting started, I will be at Cafe Crop on Wednesday to assist you. Bring your eclips and laptop (if possible-to update your controller) and I will be glad to help you.

If you didn't get one but would like one, we currently have some in stock. Come by to get one before they are gone.

Eclips and SVG Cuts Projects

Have you been thinking about purchasing a Sizzix eclips? Here is a project I have been working using the eclips and files from svgcuts.com. I made a set of 5 advent trees and was very pleased how well they went together. Since they are made from paper, I wondered how sturdy they would be and if they would hold up sending through the mail. They survived and were a hit.

If you are interested in seeing one in action, stop by Cafe Crop in Crown Point, this Saturday, December 15th between 1pm and 5pm for an informal demo. I will be working on several projects would love to show you some of the features of the eclips.

November's Tag

I love how this tag came out. The fall colors are so warm and inviting. I am asked all the time, "What do you do with the tags?"  My answer is that they are a way try out a technique or style and, sometimes I like the results and turn it into a card.

Here is a made for a couple of friends.
